hey guys, i am deciding between two beautiful but very different watches. I am currently looking at rolex blnr oyster or an ap 15450 white dial. Need some help / opinions to help me come to a decision but here is what i am looking for in my purchase.
1. Versatility
2. Something comfortable on roughly 6 inch wrist (prob a little more)
3. Value retention (assuming i buy at grey prices)
And then of course, i’d love to hear what you guys think in terms of aesthetics. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
Both are very beautiful watches, i.e. Rolex GMT Master II BLNR in Oyster bracelet or the AP 15450 white dial.
Not sure what you do but for versatility, I would always pick a Rolex. I think both brands are similar for comfort & value.
For aesthetics? The AP.
But honestly, 6" wrist is pretty small so you might want to consider smaller watches but here's a video from Tim who has a somewhat similar sized wrist to yours.

Gotta agree on this. One is 40mm and the other is 37mm. They might wear very differently on your wrist. Try it out first before deciding. You might end up deciding that neither is the one you want.
Please make this decision on your own. Try them (or similar models) on your arm to evaluate, and not going just by photo's or recommendations.
Buying something specific under someone else's advice may (and has) led to buyer's remorse. Trying on a watch is the best way to find a model that 'speaks' to you.
Also, "value retention" is a subject best avoided. Read the STICKY 'Thread Closure and Deletion' at the top of the ROLEX section. Asking or seeking "value retention" advice will likely get your post immediately shut down. Not because you may have innocently asked, but because it may attract some rather emotional argumentative responses (re: the" Investment Speculators" notes in the STICKY.)
Good thing you came to us instead of making this decision on your own.
You want the Rolex, unquestionably.
That AP is an old and tired design from a different era and something that no one will notice or assume is anything different than all the other fashion watches at the local department store that look so similar. The Rolex is special and therefore makes you feel special. Thus, you will purchase one.
I'm going to echo others regarding your wrist size. My wrist is 6 3/8 in. I can't wear the Rolex maxi-cases. Anything 39+ mm is too big. If you decide on the Rolex, make sure to try it on first. I'd hate to spend that kind of money only for the watch to wear terribly.
Some people don't mind wearing dinner plates on the wrist. But I don't think it's a good look.
Try both on and see which one feels at home on your wrist. If you want a versatile watch that can take a daily beating then get a Rolex. An AP would be more delicate and have you researched the service costs between both brands? I personally have the BLNR on jubilee and feels right. I would like to add a 15400 blue dial, but the prices have increased substantially to the point I should probably get a PM Rolex.
Both gorgeous but different watches. I would pick BLNR as a daily, but 6" wrist might be too small for a maxi-case. Def try both on, and see what sings to you the most!
I think it is good to seek the collective wisdom of fans as part of your decision-making process.
I actually like the AP RO, but I wouldn’t/haven’t bought one because the flat, brushed-finished bezel just seems too much of a scratch magnet, and those scratches would drive me crazy over time...
Also, while the AP RO is 37mm, it is the original “maxi case” as it is all square-lug and case, with its unique integrated lug/case/bracelet style, so it wears larger than expected.
I have a 6.5” wrist, and am happy with my 126710 and 114060. The Lug to Lug on those is only about 48mm. As a consideration, the 126710BLNR on jubilee will conform to your wrist better, as the Jubilee has smaller links, so the solid-end-links do not overhang as much as on the Oyster.

I concur with your assessment. My wrist is 6.75" but flat in configuration so I can easily wear a watch with lug to lug up to about 51mm without the lugs extending beyond the confines of my wrist bones. However, someone with a round wrist might be more restricted regarding the limits of lug to lug measurements.
Great watches, but you should try both watches first on your wrist and see which one feels "right" don't worry too much about future value, if you buy it at a fair price you will be fine
To each's own... I've even seen Sea Dwellers on 6" wrists. If you like it, you like it. Just make sure you look in the mirror from a distance when you put it on.
I have a 7" wrist and find that my BLNR is at the very edge of being to big for me.
Define versatility. You could wear either in a casual setting and somewhat formal (not with a tux).
For your wrist size the AP is the way to go. Both are beautiful watches. If you can, try them on and decide for yourself. Whatever decision you make will be the right one.
You should try them both on your wrist and decide which one you love more but in my opinion BLNR is very eye catching and beautiful and when you wear it you can’t think about other watches.
Between the two, BLNR all day everyday. It’s a much better daily, has useful complications, and is simply a stunner. I’ve been tempted by the AP bug before, and while it would be a nice to have if disposable income were no object, I just get so much more utility out of my BLNR. If you never travel then the GMT function might be worthless though. Lately I’ve been traveling with my Daytona and I’ve seriously been missing the date and quick jumping hands.
The BLNR oyster is much more versatile than the AP 15450 white. I think a 6 inch wrist should be able to carry off a maxi case. I would think the BLNR would also have stronger value retention than the AP. As others on the thread have advised, best to see if you can try both on the wrist and see which sings to you.
