This post has some interesting information concerning the iconic Submariner no-date 14060 and 14060M. It was originally posted by JamJam @ TZ-UK and updated by Seabreeze60.

Make: ROLEX
Model: SUBMARINER
Model: 14060 and 14060M
Year: 1990 - 2011 (2012 the 114060 was introduced)
Case: 39.5 mm
Dial: BLACK
Movement: 3000/3130

History
When Rolex first introduced the ref. 14060 in 1990 after retiring the 5513, it came equipped with the Caliber 3000 automatic movement. Then in 1999, Rolex furnished the no date Submariner with the Caliber 3130 automatic movement, thus the 14060M was born where "M" stands for "modified." In 1999 the dial of the 14060M Submariner changed from Tritium to Luminova. In 2007 the 14060M became a certified chronometer and extra text was added to the dial sometimes referred to as COSC, or 4 line. From 2007 to 2011 the 14060M Submariner was produced with an engraved inner rehault.

The first generation of reference 14060M were two-liners. Rolex did not submit this model to the scrutiny of COSC until 2007 that brought the 14060M its official COSC approval. With the approval Rolex gave buyers the choice of going for the formally sanctioned four-liner Superlative Chronometer, or sticking with the more vintage inspired two-liner.

At the 2012 BaselWorld watch show, an updated Submariner ref 114060 was introduced. It replaced the 14060M, with newer "Maxi Case" with "Chromalight" hour markers, ceramic bezel, blue Parachrom hairspring and bracelet with "Glidelock" extension system.[7]

Other Information

The Triplelock crown is physically larger than the Twinlock, there is also four separate rubber gaskets as apposed to the two in the Twinlock crown, This is the major factor difference in allowing the Triplelock to be water resistant to a deeper depth, The Triplelock crown is identified by three separate dots beneath the Rolex coronet on the winding crown.

Good info and still amazes me that good unpolished watches go for more than a new 114060 which I personally prefer with the bigger plots and new style bracelet. If you want to dive with them then I'd always go for a newer watch.
Excellent points! I paid $300 over MSRP for a 14060M COSC and engraved rehaut. No taxes. When you put the 14060M and 114060 next to each other they almost look like different watches because of the maxi case.

Very good .

For an in-depth review of the 14060/14060M Submariner -Google Paul Altieri's "Last of the Best". Altieri-of Bob's watches-
has written an excellent review that is accurate and definitive. For compelling reasons, the 3130 movement 14060 M features
a full balance bridge and Breguet overcoil. He then proceeds to explain the importance of this iteration of the timeless Rolex Submariner.
Recommended reading, especially for those of us who still dive our watches.

Excellent write up and a good reference for those with questions about the 14060.

One other piece of info, some G and Random serial 14060m 3130 movements featured the Rolex Parachrom Bleu hairspring from the factory. Though it’s not known how many did get this updated movement, a few have reported on TRF that their random and late G serials (so we’re talking 2010-2011 production) in fact had the updated hairsprings. Essentially, this puts a 6 digit movement in a 5 digit case.

The 14060 is one of the more interesting nuanced references.

Here's my 14060M. When I purchased it the Rolex dealer never mentioned anything about the history of the 14060. I was looking for a no date in good condition from a reliable dealer. Once I started researching the background on the 14060 and 14060M it was clear that these Submariners have a rich background.

FYI it has a 2008 production date but the warranty card shows it wasn't purchased until 2011.
