    New to Rolex -- How'd I do?

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this sub-forum, having spent quite a bit of time over at the Russian/Soviet forum and putting together a pretty substantial collection of vintage Soviet-era watches. I recently decided to branch out, and purchased a ~1965 Rolex 1018 Oyster Perpetual. The clean design, no date window, and relative rarity of this reference made it extremely appealing to me.

What do you, the experts, think? Did I do well for my first Rolex purchase?

Thanks for looking, and if I love this watch as much as I expect, I'm sure I'll have something new to show eventually!

I find this more interesting than most of Rolex's current lineup.

Congratulations, but those rusty hands look in pretty bad shape. Enjoy it in the best of health.

Jeeeeeez that is beautiful. It is exactly why I love the OP so much.

Typical Rolex, it is elegant and would wear well to a dinner jacket at the casino. But like James Bond, it only partially hides a hardness under that elegance.

Climbing one of the Seven Summits this week? Kilomanjaro? Kosciuszko? Puncak Jaya? That watch will handle it. It wont complain or let you down.

Diving on the Coolidge off Vanuatu? Or just diving into the deep end of the hotel pool to impress the bikini babes? No problem. That watch will take it.

That parachute jump with the boys? That hard landing in a crosswind? They always told you to keep your arms folded in and never reach out on landing but you did. You sprained your wrist, but the Rolex OP was fine. It always is.

Dinner in the Wardroom? Two Presidents, a Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary? Best dress and behaviour all round. Dont worry, that Rolex OP will fit right in.

    A watch for all seasons.

    Congratulations.
