So I have had my sub for a week now, and couldn't be happier. I came here to this forum, to seek advice, and found the piece that I didn't initially want. I purchased a 14060M from 2009.
I always wanted the Submariner with a date. And with the ceramics, I really wanted one of those. Now that I have mine, I think it is absolutely perfect for my wrist size. My other 2 pieces are the Tudor Black Bay and a Breitling Colt. I have immediately realized what I was missing with this case size. The Tudor and the Colt both just seem way too clunky and heavy, and I assume I would feel the same way about the new Sub. ( will try to sell both of those pieces, just not sure how to do so)
Literally every time I check the time now, I get a huge smile on my face. What an amazing piece. I am very glad I did not get the date, as i am loving how balanced and symmetrical the no date is.
I was debating between getting a 5 digit or 6 digit Sub (no date). The challenge was, I preferred the slimmer profile of the 14060 but since I can't even try one on, I didn't want to get into it blind (my main concern was the clasp). Ended up getting the 114060 but I still see the appeal of the older version.
Great choice and congratulations. I recently got a 5 digit GMT and absolutely love it. I also have the latest Oyster Perpetual with a white dial. I really don’t understand why people prefer the newer bracelets. Of course they feel more solid, especially the clasp. But they’re much heavier. I love my OP but it’s hard to forget I have it on my wrist. With the GMT it’s easy for me to forget that I’m even wearing a watch. The comfort is simply unmatched.
Forgive me for asking but I am curious if my eyes are playing tricks on me. I noticed that the polishing looks different on the bracelet and case. Is this the norm for a 5 digit Submariner?
i completely agree on the lugs. I want a new sub but i have 6.5" wrists. Off that the colt is too big for you, as it's 40.5mm and not crazy thick- i have a GMT and it fits great, if not slightly chunky. My Polar 16570 is a thinner Sub case and fits really well. I love my 36mm Explorer so much tho- perfect size.
Maybe I'll add a 14060 one of these days.
Consider buying your wedding ring in both silver and gold so you're future-proofed for future Rolex purchases. My wife laughed at me when I did it but it came in handy.
