They're okay. (I wouldn't go as far as saying that they're The Best.) They just lucked-out by being a household name. Ask any NON-wis'er what the best watch is and nine times out of ten, you'll hear 'em say "Rolex". There are many other watch brands out there that are WAY more expensive than Rolex... those are the brands that the non-wis'ers have never seen or even heard of.

    Re: Nothing but the best

I wouldn't say they are the best, but I would say that they are above average. They are fortunate to be a brand most people have heard of, and thus think they cost a lot more than they actually do. But, in reality, there are a lot of brands equal to, and more expensive than, Rolex that a lot of non-WIS wouldn't know exist.

    cheers.

    Re: Nothing but the best

The best and most expensive don't go hand in hand, I could tape a timex to a few gold bullion (I don't have any, but...) bars and that would be one expensive time piece. In reviewing my own Submariner, it goes the extra mile in terms of movement, accuracy, materials, tolerances, reputation, etc. It definitely lives up to it's reputation and you can argue that it is the best.
But there's never gonna be a winner in that conversation...

Indeed depends on how you define the best? The best in what? Design, finish, complication, sturdiness, value for money, etc. I Guess a Seiko nr5 can win in the category best value for money.

I would say until recently before Rolex increased their prices they were pound for pound the best. You got a lot of watch and history for the price you paid.
