It could also be because the common French are a little bit stingy when it comes to money; usually, they don't just split a bill; every one pays to the cent for what he ordered. On the other hand, rich French are different, they always tip; they are even generous tippers, that's why you get a flawless service in high end restaurants.

Also, rudeness is a common trait of French people, especially Parisians; I once read an article about Japanese tourists that go into therapy after a stay in Paris (true story).
Was easy for me to get the drift. They assumed I didn't understand French.

Very interesting article. As a matter of fact, there is defintely an overlapping between the three personalities. IMHO, a psychopath is a narcissist and a machiavellian, a machiavellian is a narcissist, and a narcissist can just be a narcissist, but under stress/threat, he could react as a machiavellian and eventually as a psychopat.

The worst kind of politician would be the ones combining those three personalities; sadly, those are the ones in control this day and age.

Depending on what genre of art you're into:

Museum of Natural History (best dinosaurs on the planet, a must-see)
    Metropolitan Museum of Art
    Museum of Modern Art
    Guggenheim Museum
9/11 Museum & Memorial Plaza (way downtown, not sure when you're doing Wall Street/Battery Park)

On a rainy day it's also the perfect time to hit up the Diamond District as you'll spend 90% of your time inside shops right off the street or in those indoor malls that are 2 or 3 floors full of shops.

As for today, the Highline ends (or begins, depending on which direction you're walking) right near the Intrepid Air & Space Museum and if you're into airplanes and/or naval vessels it's a really cool thing to see, walking on top of an aircraft carrier full of vintage and modern aircraft is very cool.

I realize a big city isn't everyone's cup of tea, but NYC has greatly upgraded since you were last here. Not just cleaner streets and less homeless, but they've built large pedestrian plazas to relax in, rehabbed all the smaller parks, and the whole 42nd Street area is transformed, and the people are a whole lot nicer seeing that the economy is so robust.
