Hi all, I picked this up for a reasonable price and was initially pretty happy with it however on closer inspection I'm concerned this may have been redialled? The lume on the hour markers looks in good condition and is a very pale mint green colour, where as on the hands it has crumbled away due to age I'm guessing? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks
It looks to me as though the hands had no lume on them...only black paint that clearly has deteriorated.
I would guess that there was moisture intrusion at some point. The 'mint green' lume dots are not new and are just likely aged as well.
I hope your 'reasonable price' is really good. (I just read your first post...you didn't overpay, but given the watch and its condition, you didn't get THAT much of a deal.)
If it were mine, I would send it off to a Rolex facility for a service, new dial, new handset and crystal, but it's not, so do with it as you wish.
Editorial comment: For the life of me, I don't know why for newbies into the world of Rolex, any age flaw on a dial or hand set immediately sets off alarms about a refinished dial. In my opinion, it's far more likely this watch was just allowed to get wet in some way or just age into this condition than a prior owner paid to have the dial refinished.
Thanks for the advice. Last night I took the bracelet off and the model number is 6494 rather than 6694 which I was expecting. The dial looks more in keeping with the 6694 for what I can tell from other examples. Do you think this may have been replaced during a service? Also how do the movements compare between the 6694 and 6694? Thanks again
Im leaning towards redial, as the lume is green and the hour indicies are not aligned evenly where they should be. The font is rather "squiggly" as well.
