I tried searching but couldn't find an answer, on the white dial Explorer II the Rolex website says the hour markers are 18K gold, but they are black, are the really 18K and coated with something? What about the black hour and minute hands?
The fact they are black on stark white drove me to trade in the 216570 White-dial Explorer-II and get another Black-Dial version.
I prefer the silvery look of hour markers and hands.
I love the enhanced legibility of the black hands on the polar dial. White gold hands on a black dial are harder for my old eyes to immediately recognize.
I have always been attracted to white coloured dials. [emoji23]
But yeah, I think I read somewhere that the indices are made in white gold but coloured black as an earlier post by @hubs suggested.
