Confused Vintage watch in 1995 GMT Master I or II ?

    Hi Fellow WIS,
Just want to get some opinions about which version to get from the year 1995.
It is not hard to guess that it is my birth year and i am a 4-watch collection guy,
Dive Watch : Tag Heuer Aqua Racer
    Chrono: Omega Speedmaster
    Dress: Nomos 135
So a GMT watch is always on my radar and i hope it will be something related to my birth year.
Also I’m by no mean ready for this watch purchase and i hope this can be my wedding watch
which i still have quite some time to save up.

So it will be awesome to know the differences between GMT master I and II and which version is better in that year.
    Thank you!

The better is the version you like better.
In my case is the older reference

Same. Try them on, you’ll know instantly.

I roll with a 1675 too — your birth year would make yours a 16710.

The watch shops i went to in HK seems kind of hard to get GMT master in their store, but i also gravitated toward the older version

The biggest difference is the quickset hour hand of the Master II. Otherwise, mostly very minor changes.

Do you have your heart set on a GMT master from birth year? I'm 1994, and was probably in your collecting phase about a year and a half ago. Had my heart set on a birth year explorer ii (before it blew up in price) and was able to try a couple on. To be honest, I'd wait to see how you feel once the day (it it's going to mark a special occasion) gets closer. My biggest problem is a watch from the 1990s feels nothing like modern Rolex, and when it comes down to making it through the next 20 odd years of my life with kids and moving and all that, I'd want the modern watch to 1) reflect those memories and growth and 2) have a better chance of surviving.

Would love to hear your thought process. Maybe I'm just not as sentimental in a vintage sense.

I am pretty sure that older Rolexes are resilient and reliable — I’ve always had vintage pieces (except for my 116710)... but I have had to have all of them serviced.

I don’t know that older pieces are as tough (hence my contemplating changing), but they’re are pretty resilient once serviced properly. When you think about it, they’ve already done 50 years of children and life — so if you service them, they should be good for another 50!

In my particular case, I am very rough on my watches and have quite an aggressive lifestyle — in addition, the kinds of activities I do are unusually shock-heavy, so the toughness is a concern for me.

There was a shift in the proportions between the 16750 and the 16760 and on — these bezel dimension shifts, plus the move to a sapphire crystal, means there’s quite a difference in feel to the older GMT’s. The trade off is functionality.
