would you sell your GMT for a Sub Date

I have a 10 year old 116710LN that's never been serviced. I recently contacted AD who stated they might be able to source a SUB date for me.

I was thinking that I could sell the GMT (which I got second hand for considerably less than what they are going now) and buy a brand new SUB that would come will have my name on the warranty card and will have 5 years of warranty.

    What's your opinion?

should I keep the GMT or sell it and get a brand new SUB

Iíll trade the black gmt for a Batman or a Pepsi.
    Then get a black sub.

Your black gmt is too similar to a Sub.

GMT is a way more useful complication. If you donít use it or donít wear the watch then now is a great time to cash in. No reason to have a black gmt and a black sub c though. BLNR/BLRO and sub c is a good combo though.

Re: would you sell your GMT for a Sub Date

I prefer the more simple bezel of the Sub than the number-heavy bezel of the 116710LN, and I really like the glidelock clasp and use the timing bezel. As others have stated, now is a good time to “cash in” on your 116710.

That said, I find the 3185-based GMT complication very useful (but have it in a 16710 and 16570).

    Good luck!

The Sub looks cleaner/less busy. If you don't travel often or use the GMT function, do it. You get some money back in your pockets, a new watch that won't need to be serviced for a decade, and warranty. Newer watches are also regulated to a tighter accuracy than what Rolex did a decade ago, so it'll be more accurate too.

    Thanks all for your reply.

Logically, the SUB makes more sense. Its newer, I won't need service in at least 10 years, it has my name on the warranty card ETC. I have know that the GMT will need a service in the nearish future and that's at leat $1,000 if I go RCS.

Now my irrational side tells me that I might regret it. I fear that the GMT might go up in value (even more.) I am afraid that I'd miss the green GMT hand.

GMT is the best, you will probably be disappointed if you got rid of it.

I would. Sure the GMT gets an edge to its movement due to the added complication but how hard is it adjusting the time when you're in a different zone? I doubt majority of people who have the GMT use the function on a consistent basis. Also, the sub is way cleaner.

Re: would you sell your GMT for a Sub Date

I would personally not sell my GMT for sub. After having tried several auto GMTs, I came to the conclusion that there is no better GMT watch then GMT II in its price range for my wrist. But I can find many other dive watches which sit as comfortably on my wrist as a sub and with same function and features.
If you are convinced that GMT has got to go then for me the only option would be to go for Pepsi/Batman to replace it. But finding one from an AD quickly would be impossible which is the reason why I havenít made a move for one yet.
