Nice review--agree with your comments on the date wheel, really wish they would address that issue on a least some of their black dial watches. Something that stood out to me in your photos was the overwhelmingly green color scheme for the tritium tubes--for the tritium king (watch maker) I really wish Ball showed a bit more imagination when choosing colors for the tubes on the Aviators--green is nice, but there are other colors available...

Nice review. I'm with Peter on the color choice of tubes. I feel Ball did much better on the Aviator dual time with the colors or even if it reverted to it's new standard of red at the twelve, blue marker tubes and amber in the hands. I think we've gotten a little spoiled since nearly everybody else is one or two color max.

On the date wheel I have a little more perspective on this. I recently bought a new Omega Mark II with the black dial. This has the preferred date wheel set-up that your proclaiming as better. I'm a date user and I can't find the date on it, it blends too much and would prefer the white wheel. I have not had this issue on Omega's blue dial since the tend to use the black wheel/ white number setup on those. So I'm part way with you, but still think the white with black is the better standard.

(You have .5 seconds...find the date)

    Not as difficult on this

Ultra easy on this even if the cheater cyclops what not in place

Or my better solution make more real white dials and they can do anything you want on the black dials since I'm a sucker for the white every time over pretty much any other color:

Michael--you make a strong case! Definitely hard to find the date on your Omega chrono--my comments only apply to basic non-chrono watches, where I like the date to blend in at least a little, rather than stand out over anything else.

As for the date wheel color issue, my $0.02:

If the date wheel is going to be a different color, it needs to have a surround. The white date wheel doesn't bother me at all on my Ceramic XV because it has the nice shiny surround. By comparison, the Worldtime Diver and Fireman 43 look a little off with their white date wheels against black dial.

~tc~, right there with you regarding the surround. This is my response as well, (having a surround is of primary importance when the date wheel back color matches the dial color), it is a simple and elegant solution. The surround may be, yet does not have to be, shiny.

    Cheers,

    Craig

I like it, but the Union Pacific logo cheapens the watch and kills it dead for me.
