New Ball Explorer - Anthony Powell

Finally a Kiwi Explorer for the Ball Watch Explorers Club.
Proud to say that I have met Anthony and his wife several times while working in Antarctica and was there the winter that he shot the majority of the film footage for his latest movie.
The photographs in his profile page are truly stunning.

"Antarctica: A Year on Ice" is an excellent movie that showcases life in Antarctica.

Now we will just have to see what type of watch they will come up with to celebrate his joining the Explorer Club.

Congrats to you! That sounds pretty exciting to say the least. Just have to ask though,..what kind of coat or parka did you wear there? I am kind of a down coat fan and have been looking at the Canada Goose Down website on occasion.

Glad you had that opportunity. Most people do not get that chance. Pays to be in the right place at the right time...

    Bridgs,
The U.S. Antarctic program uses Canada Goose jackets. The NZ Antarctic program used Fairydown when I first went to Antarctica in 2003 and then changed to the Canada Goose jackets but for the last 7 years or so have been using NZ made parkas from a company called Earth Sea Sky. We also use Carhart clothing for work wear to avoid damaging the more expensive extreme cold weather gear where possible.

Thank you for the very useful information. It sounds like you have put in some time there. Thank you for your service as I am sure it somehow benefits us all in the end.

I like that Ball has the explorers that actually push limits, science or humanitarian boundaries and not just celebrity presences. Even the celebrity ties they have like Eric Singer helped test the benefits of Spring Lock in his real world (not that Eric has officially been made an explorer yet). George And Nicole look great in photos for Omega but their time pieces are not tested much by movie actors.
