    Was Rob Right?

Back when the Skindiver was first launch Rob posted a photo set with some comparison pictures next to a vintage Omega Seamaster 300. Back then I could not fully see the similarities. I had Skindiver for two years and it dominated my wrist time including being the only watch I took to Asia for a month. So I have a good feel for how this watch wears. Thursday I took delivery from Rob of a New TT Omega 300 Seamaster master co-axial. Yesterday was my first full day with it. The thing that struck me was how much it reminds me of the Skindiver on the wrist.

Hmmm.......looks like somebody is looking to grow higher cotton.

Definitely would like your perspective on wear/feel/performance after you have owned it a while (compared to the skin-diver).

Five times since mine is SS and Sedna (Omega Rose gold). Two times if you get the SS and 2.5 for the Titanium version. I will note this has the master co-axial movement that is uncanny in accuracy, has twice the service interval of other automatic movements and is so anti-magnetic that there is no magnetic field that anyone can generate and measure in a lab that can affect it (thus the >15,000 Gauss markings, no one really knows how anti-magnetic it really is, just how much they can measure so far). Not something I worried about until I received my first magnetized watch this year and it took three demagnetizers to relieve the issue(admittedly one fell out of the box and down a flight of stairs so I don't know if that counted).

    Per Peter's request:

I'll note this was shot not hacked at 1/30 of a second, and the watch had not been in sunlight for over an hour, so pretty decent conventional lume.

The Ball of course will look like this in the dark 24 hours a day.

The Omega Bezel uses Omega Ceragold technology: http://www.omegawatches.com/planet-o...old-technology

and here is a bit on the Master Co-Axial movement: http://www.omegawatches.com/planet-o...aster-co-axial

So it is a reasonably high tech watch.

    Re: Was Rob Right?

I'd love to do a comparison in a month or two. I need to acquire another Skindiver and probably need to do it quickly since I would want the 40mm which was just announced discontinued. I would not be interested in a 44mm version and feel Ball needs to also keep the original also since it has a size and proportion to fit nearly everyone along with the ability to wear bigger than it's size (Just like the Rolex Sub C). Hopefully Jeff will read this.

As you can see the Seamaster 300 MC fits into my modern vintage theme well:

L-R and T-B Rolex Sub C (Hulk), Breitling Super Ocean Heritage, Omega Ploprof, Ball Skindiver (reportedly based on a 1962 Ball diver), Longines Legend Diver ND.

Great collection--out of these five, I am most drawn to the Longines (maybe the most inexpensive of the group?!)--understated, but classy (and it actually has a few Arabic numerals for the hours, which I like). Look forward to the full write up.

    Re: Was Rob Right?

I see the shared coin-edge bezel, and lack of a crown guard on both. But otherwise, I'm not seeing the similarities from a visual perspective.
