    Strap Recommendations For Night Train

    Hey Guys,

I was hoping I could get some strap recommendations for the Ball Night Train. The black and orange one that comes with the watch is ok, but I'd like something with a little more substance. Also, if possible, I'd prefer fitted, i.e. curved end straps that conform to the case and get rid of the gap where the strap hooks into the lugs.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Bloom- did you get the original dial NT you were hunting? If so, post some pictures of it for us all to see !

Hey Morrison, I did indeed. Took a lot of time and scouring, but I ended up finding one. Funny thing is, when I initially received it, there was a problem with the UTC window not matching up with the hands, so I had to send it off to Ball to be fixed. Just got it back about 10 minutes ago, and it's very nice indeed!!

I'll try to get some pictures this weekend, but suffice to say, if you're a lume/tritium junkie like me, the original "tri-color" Night Train is absolutely worth hunting for!!

Now I just need to find a cool fitted strap for it!!

Congrats! Sorry to hear it had some initial problems- at least they were taken care of quickly. Did you find it new at an AD or pre-loved?

New at an AD. Took me forever to find one though.

Nice work! As for NT strap choices without a gap, maybe try a 22 mm Hirsch Leonardo- that may give you the look that you want.

    1) The AD near me still has a first generation NT. PM me for details.

    2) If I had it to do over again, I would keep the black NT, buy the SS NT bracelet (used on the white NT), and have Jack at IWW DLC-coat the bracelet. . . . since Ball has not developed a DLC bracelet for this watch.

    3) Here are some pics of my former NT on different 22mm straps:

Hirsch Leonardo (takes a little squeezing, but not much)

    NATO

Don Ginsler black buffalo (22/20 panny-style: my favorite for this watch)

Thanks for the pics roberev- I thought I saw somewhere that a 22 mm Hirsch squeezed in there would tighten up the gap.

I also was able to find one of the last original dial NT's at an AD this past summer to go along with my now discontinued 43 mm white dial Fireman and since I am local to him, had contacted Jack at IWW about a DLC job on that bracelet, which matches the NT case. I was disappointed to get a $350 DLC bracelet quote- seems a bit much. Thankfully, I already had the bracelet, otherwise all tolled with the bracelet cost, the price approaches $600.

Rob, thanks for the pictures!! I too like your Don Ginsler strap a lot. Wonder if he'd ever make a fitted one like the Hirsch Leonardo. One question about the Night Train; are the lugs 21mm or 22mm? I want to make sure I have the rignt dimensions before looking at straps.

    Night Train has 21mm lugs.

I suggest 22mm straps. They usually fit without really noticing the pinch. 20mm straps rarely fill the space.
