Thoughts on the Roadmaster Raffles LE?

What do you guys think? This is a limited edition of only 200 pieces, available at Gnomon. Pic and link, below.

I just had an impulse buy and ordered this. I think I was so enamored of the look of the GMT they just finished pre-orders on, that I made up my mind I HAD to add a Ball to the stable at some point. The good news...I've been itching BAD to order a new Sinn 103 ST SA...but this swooped in and saved my watch budget for the year and a half.

I'm into dive watches and I'm a lume weirdo. Considering I have no divers in my collection with tritium or a red bezel, I thought I'd roll the dice on this.

There are a few things that put me off a bit. I'm not in love with the hands (yet). I'm not 100% sure I'll like a red bezel. And I'm 50/50 on whether the dial's too busy for my simple tastes.

It'll be my first Ball watch, though I've long admired a number of their pieces. I've handled quite a few from their collection, but I try to keep my purchases limited to $1K (or close to it) and I prefer to max out the L2L at 48mm where possible, so those factors had largely been a barrier to my entry into the Ball world.

My wrist is somewhere between around 6.75", so this is one of the few (maybe the only?) Ball divers that will fit nicely. It's 40mm X 48mm.

I'll try to do an unboxing post when I receive it.

Looks okay. Nice price particularly compared to the new icebreaker which looks overpriced in comparison. If you like the red I say go for it.

Didn’t even know this existed. Looks like a good deal.

I like it. I have similar sized wrists and I agree Ball does not seem to have watches that would work for me. 48 mm lug to lug is right in my comfort zone.

    I just stumbled across it.

Went to Gnomon to look again at the Squale GMT and it just popped up.

Went back and forth a few times, but I just couldn't pass it up at this price.

I checked this out on their website. It looks like a commemorative watch for the discovery of Singapore (an island nation) 200 years ago. Whilst I like the red bezel, I can't bring myself to buy a watch commemorating a country I have no affiliation to. Moreover, the red text says bi-centennial and it will become dated once it's past 2019. Just my views on it. Others may disagree.

Totally understand that view. I considered that, too, but after years of wishing my wrists could accommodate a Hydrocarbon or Skindiver or Stormchaser chrono, I had to jump on this for the rarity of its smaller dimensions in the Ball lineup.

Besides, nobody's going to know anything about the Singapore connection unless they're a WIS or one of the 199 others who own one, and in that case I'll buy them a beer.

As far as the Bicentennial thing... Everyday is a bicentennial.

So there's a glimpse of how I rationalize.

That bicentennial marking is only an issue if you’re planning on flipping it, which I wouldn’t be. If I bought one it would be as just an everyday wear kind of watch so the fact it’s a commerative of something I don’t care about wouldn’t really bother me.

I like it in red. Good choice.
