556 applied vs printed markers question

For those of you with the 556i black model and/or the variations (blue, mocha, anthracite) - does the applied markers make a significant presence in the dial? Always read the black is best due to starkness of the dial, but that seems also possible with the above variations since all have the AR coating. Thoughts?

Re: 556 applied vs printed markers question

I personally don't like applied indices on the 556, and I liked them even less after comparing them in person. I think it was smart of Sinn to try to capitalize on the simplicity, affordability, and popularity of the 556 by making it a platform for variation. But the simpler a watch is, the more convincing the aesthetic has to be. The cockpit-instrument-style dial is something that Sinn nails, and it seems that the further they move away from that, the more ordinary and less convincing their watches become.

I would gladly wear the plain black 556i or 556a. But for a simple time-and-date watch with a clean aesthetic and applied indices for around $1000, I'd be looking at Ball, even Seiko (who tend to do applied indices well even at the entry level).

If in doubt, see if you can catch a road show! They're great fun, the folks are real nice, and there's nothing like having a watch physically on your wrist to help you make up your mind.

As always, this is a reflection of my personal taste. If you own one of the 556 variations and love it, keep loving it!

The indices arenít wide or tall, but you do get some dimensional feel and the polished borders & hands can catch the light quite nicely. Only pic Iíve got handy.

Depends on the 556. On the Anniversary, the applied indices are a good match with the sunburst dial. They add another element of depth/texture to the dial.

Iíve owned more than 20 Sinns. However, the one I really would like is a 556I with black dial, applied indices, and a date. Please.

I have strong preference for applied indices. However I took a chance and purchased a 556i due to the dark glossy black/white contrast.

Despite my preference I have no issues at all with the printed. It works well with this watch, not washed out like many printed dials.

Returned it for another reason so not defending the buy.

Itís actually not so much the printed dial that bothers me. Itís the hands on the standard 556. Iíd like to see steel, lume-filled hands.

Having held both side by side, I have a strong preference for the 556 when it HAS the applied indices.

I have a black 556i and I love it's stark simplicity and immediate legibility. I also like the applied indices variants, but I really don't like how the hands appear way too short in certain light conditions. This pic perfectly illustrates what I mean.
