Any suggestions for the care of a 656 AR coating?

    Hi folks!

I'm the new owner of a 656 (great watch) and it's my first encounter with a watch with an AR coating. Is there anything special I need to know or do to care for it (the coating, that is)?

    Thanks!

    Dave

I'm anal compulsive and therefore use lens fluid applied with a fresh Q-tip to clean smudges/spots off the outer AR coating. Sometimes I use deinonized water (doesn't leave water spots). Anything that is safe for the AR coating on expensive camera lenses should be safe for the AR coating of watch crystals.

However, I'm sure just simply wiping it with a soft cloth (eg microfiber) is fine.

I am not that anal, so spit and what ever I wear that day, or water/soap and towel works fine for me.
Usually the first method, more easily accesible-with me at all times.
The AR coating is pretty hard. No scratches yet (1.5 years of spitn'polish)

Addition: In fact I do not spit on it, I lick it! But not if I have been working, then it is usually soap.

You lick your watch Janne? I've been called a window licker but never a watch licker. Lol!

I am a little more concerned with germs than most, so I lick my thumb, then rub it across the crystal and squeegee the residue off with the palm of my hand. Viola, clean crystal!

You could leave a thick layer of dirt and smudge to protect it

Are you sure your thumb is cleaner than your watch, SMSgt Bo? I am not! Think about where it has been since the last wash!!!
A few bugs are good for our immune system. Just think about where your tongue has been during your life, and how healthy you are! (I hope you are very healthy!)

I like Leebmans suggestion. I do that with my daily car. Paintwork looks better, dirty but no scratches visible!
