    argon?

    hi guys,

new to the sinn argon thing. frankly its a marvelous idea, but i was wondering what happens to the watch if the argon is gone?

also, how long does the argon last, if the argon escapes, is it safe to dive/use normally. any ideas?

    all info appreciated

    regards

    ray

    Re: argon?

AR is a non flammable gas and is used as a sheilding for certain welding, it it is heavier than air so it keeps oxygen away from the surface being welded. it is also used in neon lighting for different coloring. that being said, inside the watch AR helps provide a barrier against moisture by consuming the space that would otherwise be taken up by oxygen. it is vacummed into the case but is not under pressurization so losing AR under normal use is not likely. if you lose your AR have the seals replaced, no matter if you replace the AR or not. so to answer your ? AR is a superior protectant against oxidation and without it you have the protection of a typical watch. nothing abnormal will happen without it unless you plan on diving.

Exactly, Argon provides an extra functionality over a regular watch and supports the dry capsule by limiting the amount of moisture-carrying air that can be insidethe case ... the real hard stuff is done by the dry capsule though, which keeps moisture away from the movement and lubricants and thereby extends the life of the watch. With the Argon gone, everything is still just fine. Possibly the blueing of the dry capsule will accelerate (dependingon the climate/humidity you live in) a bit, but all of that is no concern. B-)
