Brand new Sinn with dried out lubricant--common?

Bought a new Sinn U1 from watchbuys in December of 2013. It always kept extremely good time but the auto winder never worked properly and the watch would die at random points when it was off wrist

Finally sent it in for warranty work this past December and it's on its way back home

Official diagnosis: dried lubricant! Why the heck would a new watch from Sinn have dried lubricant? Is this common with Sinns?

Maybe it was just old stock, but there's no easy way to tell the date of manufacture...very puzzled

Mine had the same issue, the watches must sit for a while which is strange since Watchbuys says the 556 is frequently sold out

Interesting. Nice to have it repaired but annoying nevertheless as my watch has been at the service center for over a month now.

This is a common issue with micros, but I would think Sinn would pay more attention to this. I've had several "new" watches with Eta movements have lubrication issues right out of the gate.

most sinns are assembled with out-of-house movements: god knows how long those were sitting around before being sold to sinn and then assembled and then sold.

Sounds plausible, though I'll admit to being naive enough to find this a shocking standard for a new, $2000 watch.

agreed, not the desired outcome when buying a new watch, but probably not uncommon for small companies who out-source movements.

Good luck with repairs. I sent mine away for a warranty repair in July last year and got it back this month.

    Common?
    No.

Not with the synthetic lubricants that Sinn uses these days.
    I find this rather unusual.
