Argon is a method of keeping watch sealed from atmospheric humidity.

I think the "little hole" you mentioned is the Copper-sulfate capsule. This turns from white to blue colour as the water resistance decreases over time. When it reaches a darker blue, it is time to have the watch serviced.

    What he said.

Most of the Argon filled watches in the Sinn line are designed for extreme environmental conditions where severe cold could cause a normal watch to fog due to moisture inside the case. The Copper Sulphate capsule gives the two-fold benefit of being an added desiccant as well as a moisture saturation indicator.

    Pretty cool, ain't it?!
