Difference in Sinn Watch Prices - USA versus Germany

    Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows the difference in prices for Sinn watches compared to watch buys in USA?

I can tell you that on Chrono24 there are a ton of “pre-loved” Sinn watches for sale by German sellers. With the dollar doing fairly well against the Euro that is a great option for getting a good price.

If you buy from Europe, you can get the VAT refund on the watch. You'll typically get anywhere between 11-14.5% discount depending on the price of the watch on VAT refund. See example discount chart from one of the 3rd party VAT refund providers, Global Blue, that I took a pic of from one of the ADs from my recent trip to Frankfurt

When I visited Sinn HQ at Frankfurt (awesome and highly recommended along with a visit to Guinand which is nearby as well) I confirmed they they also allow one more option which is a bit more work to get the full 19% VAT refund by getting a stamp on a customs form or on the original receipt and mailing it back to them via post. See a quick summary of the process here. Here's the detailed version from the German customs page and the link to the form I mentioned. The detailed page also references that this form is optional as long as you get the stamp on the receipt itself.

I should caveat that I haven't done the longer process myself, only the simpler one from the various 3rd party VAT refund providers such as Global Blue. For context, I did this research to almost pull the trigger on the EZM 10 with the full VAT refund option but decided to pass as I had another Rolex I wanted to get first.

Of course, the easiest option of all is buying pre-owned if you aren't traveling to Europe anytime soon

We should also mention duties. FedEx, DHL or whoever will send you a bill for a few percent 3-5%) of the watch value(and a processing fee). There is some discussion of that here:
    https://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/buy...7-2.html?amp=1

One of those posts mentions a state sales tax bill well.

I have experience paying about $20 plus a $25 FedEx processing fee on a $500ish Steinhart.

Here are some examples from late summer 2018. Drop VAT and add duty. You’ll still be ahead of US pricing if you happen to be in Germany. US service members in Germany and dependents can also get VAT refund forms.

If you have a VPN, just use that to access the web from a German server, and go to Sinn.de — on their German-accessed website they list their prices in Euros (both with VAT and excluding VAT).

For example, currently a Sinn 104I on leather is about 1100 USD in Germany (with full VAT refund), versus 1330 via WBs.

Pappy have you had any experience getting a discount at a Sinn AD or the HQ in Frankfurt and then used a VAT form? I’m stationed in Germany and plan on picking up another Sinn or two.

I don’t, sorry. But I’m thinking about it if I can get some TDY over there.
