Help appreciated on a Sinn 140/142

    Hi guys,

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Sinn 140/142 which I came across.

Have been wanting a a 5100 movement in my collection for the longest time.

No box and papers on this, and seller has mentioned it is running fast at 15s a day.

Is there anything I should take note of from the pictures? Thanks so so much in advance!

Mine is very old, so the crown is a little finicky and the internal bezel doesnít work very well. Iím not sure if those are common issues.
Also, bracelet links are hard to come by, so ask if there are enough links for your wrist.

My .02 would be to expect to do a service, if you have no record of one and it's running +15. Mine was serviced in 2016 and is keeping +2.5 very consistently.

I think a complete bracelet should have 12 links, so it looks like the bracelet above has 2 removed.

How low is the serial number, roughly? Mine is in the 12XX range and was originally sold in 1993 (although it's hard to know when it was actually made, even the factory couldn't tell me).

    Thanks, this is 37xx.

Would you be able to share the cost of a full service? And was it done with sinn?

Mine was serviced by Sinn, but through a dealer in Germany, so they may have up charged a little.

The movement service was ~€300, but there was also a new dial and hands, full re-seal, etc. so the total was ~€700. I think the guy who owned it at the time did everything possible to mechanically restore the watch (but left the patina on the outside, which I like). This was in 2016.

If yours needs a service, any competent watchmaker can handle it. The 5100 is the same as an Omega 1045, parts and knowledge are available.

The movement looks great, I think this is a real classic watch Iíve had a couple in the past but itís one I always look at when for sale.
