Help with a solution - Scratch / dent on my EZM

    Hi all,

It seems that I have a scratch or a dent near the date window.

I can't really say what it is, I just noticed it a few hours ago when it was fine yesterday. I thought it was a stain because as far as I know I haven't been knocking the watch on anything hard that could cause that deep of a dent, because I'd definitely remember if I did.

I've been trying to rub it off with water / a bit of soap but it still won't come off.

I've bumped my watch few times previously but still no scratch. So it's very weird. I can feel a bit of a dent when scratching it with my nails.

Any ideas on what it actually is?

Does polishing with diamond paste work? or is my only option to send in for a replacement crystal (if they have it?)

I think you just leave it as is, it doesnt merit a crystal replacement and as far as im aware you can treat scratches on sapphire

If you can feel an indentation with your nail, it is a chip in the crystal. Very rare thing to happen. You either live with it or replace the crystal.

    My condolences...

Roll with it,if it's a chip....decide when service required if you wish to replace.
You have just customized the look.
It must of been a one in a million angle to chip,if you dont recall how.
Wear it mate..only let it worry you if it affects the timekeeping via the knock/hit.
    All the best

Could it be that the AR coating has been scratched?

Don't know if this model has AR coating in the outside and couldn't see the scratch on the pics.

This was my first thought as well. According to the product page on Sinn's website the EZM3 does have anti-reflective coating on both sides of the crystal.

If it's a chip, is there any way to fix it with diamond paste / something else?

    @ Toni Crouton & Radharc

Yes this model has anti reflective coating on both sides.

I'm not sure if it's only the coating that's scratched as I previously mentioned I can feel an indentation with my nails. Is that normal for a scratched coating?

Sadly, I don't believe this is an AR scratch based on the pics and the description... AR scratches don't look quite like that in my experience... they look more like smudges. And you definitely cannot feel them with your fingernail. If you can feel it, this sounds like a scratch in the crystal. Which is quite suprising!!! Especially since you don't know how it happened. You must have hit it just right..... bad luck. BUT!!! It doesn't look THAT bad and I'm sure you'll get used to it eventually. If I were you, I'd do my best not to worry about it too much and then just have them replace the crystal the next time you have the watch serviced (whenever that is).

definitely looks like a ding in the sapphire... unfortunately not much else to do than either replace it or live with it
