Question Question for Sinn 142 owners (AR coating ?)

I recently obtained a used Sinn 142. The watch is in pretty good shape, but there are a few scratches to the outside AR coating. This 142 was sold in 200. Question: Is the AR coating easily scratchable? I.e. I am considering having it recoated, but not if it will scratch easily.

I have one other watch with external AR coating, but it's flawless after several years (but it's more of a dress watch so it hasn't seen combat).

    Thank you in advance,

    -Kevin-

Re: Question for Sinn 142 owners (AR coating ?)

AR coating comes in various degrees of hardness, depending on who put it on ... the hardest I know are used by Sinn on the 900 and the U-series (1800 HV).

The older coatings are nowhere as scratch resistant. Before you commission such work, I'd suggest to enquire about the hardness.

....my 142, about 2 yrs on, has many little hairline scratches on AR coating.....it is very easily scratchable, however, the fine scratches are not really visible under normal use.
My U1 AR coating appears bullet proof as i've really dinged the glass hard a couple times and looks brandnew.

if its too expensive to redo the AR coating and it annoys you...you can use toothpaste to take it all out (not the clear gel type)

just tape the bezel and rub tooth paste over the crytal with your finger (several applications may be needed)
