    Is this for real?

    Hello there!

I'm new here. Just got myself a U2 and am hoping that I'll be getting a UX as my rough-and-tumble watch (If my local AD ever gets to bring in one).

However, I'm just going thru ebay and come across this
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Sinn-Compass-GMT...QQcmdZViewItem

Is this for real? Looks like one of those Field and Stream OEM watches.
Did Sinn ever come out with something like this. The back of casing is in English "Swiss Made???" instead of German.

    Thanks
    Sean

    Whoops!!,

I don't know sean, I have never seen a pic of this Sinn.
Nor did I hear anything about it, my gut feeling is saying fake.
But maybe there are some guys on the forum with far more Sinn history knowledge who can tell.
But you know, on the Bay everything is possible!

    Cheers,

    Daddel.

100% fake. Looks very cheap and Sinn is not Swiss made, but in Germany..

While I can not tell you whether this watch is or not fake, there have been and still are some Sinn models produced entirely in Switzerland. Especially before the days of SUG most cases were Swiss made and watches were cased up with Swiss movements in Switzerland. These watches bear the Swiss Made on the dial. Have a look at the Sinn 244 ti models they are still a good example today.

    Re: Is this for real?

Normally Sean I would accuse someone making there first post with a link to an eBay auction of being a shill. However I don't think, even if you are the owner of the watch, you would be drumming up any positive "buzz" on this watch. :-D

In my opinion, It looks very fake. The thing that stands out most to me is the S on Sinn. The S on the dial is flat on the bottom. It does not flare up on the bottom. It looks like the letter is tilted counter clockwise. Also the text below looks very cheap and not centered.

I will be interested to hear some more opinions though. Oh I also forgot, Sean welcome to the ISF and let's see some pics and a review of your U2.

There were several compass models (170, 171) made by Sinn.

Here are some interesting old ones (German language)

    Re: Is this for real?

So I guess it's real, which also raises the possibility of a shill post. Strange how the S has changed. Compare with current Sinn lettering.

    Re: Is this for real?

I am well aware of the change in the "S" ... happened in the 1990s, though I don't remember whether it was in connection with the sale of Sinn to Mr. Schmidt or not.
