Remove Dive Extension - 22mm Bracelet

I've read posts where people mention removing the dive extension on their metal bracelets and want to try it to see if removal helps with the fit of the bracelet on my wrist.

For those who have done it, did you use a regular spring bar through the larger link hole?

I am also interested in how to do this.
My concern is that I would need a shim of some kind on either end of the spring bar at the end of the bracelet.

Very interested to hear from anyone who has done this
