Does anyone have any experience of the black tegimented 856? I have been very impresed with the resilience of the Tegiment process on my 756 and was thinking of adding the 856, but have read varying reports of the black coating "rubbing off" or becoming abraded.
Any input gratefully received...
Phil
I have an 856 Schwarz on bracelet, and have been wearing it...
non-stop for a couple of months. It seems utterly impervious to marks from wear and abrasion. The black coating on the 856 is actually rated to be harder and more scratch-resistant than the Tegimented steel, (1800 Vickers as against 1200 for the Teg. steel). I have a 756 Diapal as well, and it has picked up no visible marks in a year. 'Crusader' is correct, the 656 black is not the same coating and is not rated to resist scratching.
The antireflective coating on both the 756 and 856 are apparently as resistant to scratching as the cases. I know I have 'clanked' my watches against doorframes and other objects during my ownership, but the coatings are completely perfect, no marks whatever.
I know that some AR coatings are susceptible to damage from normal handling and wear, because a BP I have looks near mint on the case, but the AR coating has numerous tiny scratches in it that can be seen if you catch the light the right way. Not so with the Sinns, they are both unmarked after months, up to a year of wear.

Many thanks for the helpful comments, looks like it will have to be the black 856 in place of the U1 then...
For interest, I also have several minor scratches in the AR coating of the 756, although the U1 has so far been immune to them. The scratches are only really noticeable in harsh, bright overhead (paticularly common here in Australla) or indoor halogen lighting, and to be honest are probably only noticeable because I'm looking for them. The AR is, however, remarkably effective.
I have a 756S and after 6 months of some pretty hard use the case looks new and the bacelet is looking a little thin in some places. It can't say it has any real scratches but would hate to see it if the surface of the bracelt was not hardened like the case. I love it and hope that the U1 and U2 has the same option very soon. The black dial of the 856S and its case really look great and think you will like it.

The U-series models and the 900 already have the new 1800HV-superhatd outside coating. My understanding is that a number of specialist companies are offering this superhard-grade of coating (close to the hard ness of the sapphire itself at ca, 2000 HV, IIRC), so that we'll be seeing more of those on several watch brands in the near future, I am convinced.
since they are later models. My experience with AR coatings in the past was of relative fragility, but Sinn's seem to be impervious, at least the most recent ones.
The AR coating on my U2 is blemish free. After four months of ownership and about 3 1/2 months of wear, I examined the crystal with a 15x loupe and found it to be blemish free.
