Another nice 20 c sunny lazy Saturday today. I went out for a coffee at my local Tim Hortons coffee shop and on the way back, I decided to pull out my little digital camera and make a little movie.
This is the back road to Timmins and it was the main route to the gold mines that sprung up in the thick forest in the years after the discovery of gold in 1908 in the Porcupine camp. Most of the mines were around for only a year or so and are now forgotten. Those who have worked there were the only ones who knew of their existence and they have long since passed on. The main mines, the Preston, The Preston East, The Paymaster, The Buffalo Ankerite, The Delnite, The Aunor have all passed into history too. The headframes which marked the place where many have toiled in the depths have been torn down now. Nothing much remains but memories.
The Dome which started it all in 1909 is still running and the large industrial complex on the left a minute or so in is the new crusher and mill. You can see the old tailing from the mine on the left side covered in grass in the first minute of the movie. The new tailings are 3 minutes in on the left a kilometer or so away from the highway. Little lakes are numerous in our area and you can see one on the left in front of the new tailings dam.
Anyway, this is sort of representative of the area. This area is unusually populated by deciduous trees. Most of the region is covered in coniferous trees.
Anyway, had a nice drive and I took this opportunity to use my U2 as a vehicle to show you the area. If you guys like this kind of stuff, let me know and maybe every week or so, I could make a 2 minute movie or so while I'm out with my U2. Sort of a user experience.
Those of you who are not interested in these videos, they are clearly marked VIDEO on the thread header and you can pass by..no need to click. I'll try not to clutter up the forum with these. Maybe a video or so every 10 days if your interested.
I'll be out 'n' about as we say here with my 103 ti ar too so expect a video with that strapped on as well in the future.
Anyway, here goes. 4 minutes long and ... couldn't have timed it better for a watch related cruising song on the classic rock channel, THE MOOSE!! 93.1. "Wind him Up...SAGA"
