Looking for Fortis #1 - Spacematic?

    Hey all,

I've been out of the loop for quite a while but the watch bug has recently bitten... so now I'm back!
Always wanted a Fortis so I'm keen to finally make it happen.
I'm on a tight budget so getting a good bargain is essential.
Best deal I've managed to find so far is a Fortis Spacematic. I'm keen for the stealth version but the regular steel one is $100 cheaper.
Anyone have personal experience with one they'd like to share?

I've got the Stealth Spacematic. I like it however I don't wear that much due to three other watches. I bought new from Watchbuys in April. I dropped it once on concrete so it has a ding on it and it runs slow...approx 11-23 seconds a day. Don't know if it was due to drop, probably was. Considering having it serviced. Been thinking about selling as I don't wear it as much. This was my first automatic watch.

Pros: Very legible, no nonsense watch. I think it's a good looking watch just wished it was more accurate although it could be entirely down to me dropping it.
Cons: Being a black watch it sometimes doesn't go with everything.

Thanks for the input! Sorry to hear about the accident. My wife dropped my Breitling Superocean back when I still had it and it def wasn't the same after that. Sounds like a service might be a good idea.

Lovely! May I ask how long you've had it...? How has the PVD held up?

I’ve the watch for about 3 years. This is like a weekend watch and I sort of baby it so the PVD coating is still in good shape.

Re: Looking for Fortis #1 - Spacematic?

It sounds like price is a factor - therefore I think the Spacematic line is a perfect choice within the Fortis lineup. Full disclosure -- currently 2/8 Fortis in the stable for me are Spacematics (both autos) and I will say they are more often my "grab-and-go" above the others. IMO this equates to which model(s) I would choose on a budget, desert island, etc.

Just to clarfiy -- I don't have unlimited budget myself to buy watches, actually far from it. However I find that of all the Fortis models, the Spacey's are the most versatile in the lineup because they tick all the boxes; reasonable size (40mm), 100/200 m WR great build qualtiy, simple but not boring designs, Sapphire crystal, solid bracelet, etc., for very reasonable prices....
