Advice needed on Navitimer 806 purchase

    Hello Guys,

I'm a complete watch novice looking to purchase a Navitimer 806.

Given this is my first 'real' watch purchase I'm a little nervous that I would miss something obvious so would appreciate any advice on what to look for. Ive been looking through the Crono24 website and there appear to be some reasonably priced examples.

I read somewhere that gold hands with a silver casing is a no-no, probably means the hands are not original....is this true?

Any advice would be gratefully received especially on what to look for to avoid fakes!.

There are so many different variations of the Navitimer 806 that it's better for you to just post a pic of a prospective purchase. There are differences in the number of beads in the bezel, for example, between years, dial variations, etc. etc. Gold hands go with gold watches. The main problem is that parts get switched between models making them still authentic but not correct as they left the factory for a particular year. There are also rare variations only an expert can recognize.

I would pass on all three watches you've posted - the first is in really poor condition - with missing lume and a deteriorated dial. Second watch is a service dial with service hands, and third watch has been polished to death and has a replacement slide rule and sweep hand.....

Actually I like the first one best. Completely honest watch. I'm a patina fan myself and it shows the history of the watch. (You should see the 806 I just bought.) That would make a great daily wearer after a thorough service (if it hasn't had one lately.) I don't like to wear perfect examples. The price should reflect the condition though and there's a wide spread on values for basically the same models. If you want a perfect 50 year old watch you're going to pay for it.

    Thanks gtopaul/Ericherz.

I understand that I wont be getting a perfect example in the budget im looking at.

Is it possible to have lume replaced on these vintage models?

Lume replacement shouldn't be a problem but use a color close to the lume on the dial.
