    Rare Zenith Diver

I do not really like to use the term 'rare'. But i think it is appropriate in this case.

I found this Zenith diver with the 2542 PC movement.

On some french forum i read that it was made in Besancon, France in the 60s. And not in Switzerland.
Or atleast, some Zeniths from users on that forum that are very similar to this one. Same case, hands, crown and movement. Only my dial is different.

I also wonder what dial colour this used to be. It seem to have faded a bit intolight blue/grey.

Has anybody ever seen one of these or has more info about it?

And here is one similar to it but with different dial. I also found the same example with the 4 pointed star logo as i have on mine.

What a nice watch! Made in Besancon? I doubt it - the serial number under the balance (>7 million) suggests otherwise.

Hi there and congratulations on your Zenith. I think this is the second of this model I've seen so far. The movement was made in Switzerland but it was cased in Besançon, I estimate it dates to 1969.

Ooh, that’s a cool vintage watch! I’d hang on to that one.

In that case, that must be the first Zenith I've seen that was cased in Besancon but that had a Swiss serial number.

This raises the question: were the movements cased in Besancon (mainly Cal. 106 and derivatives) actually made there? And if not, why did these receive their own serial numbers?
