    Question ZENITH WATCH

I have owned a Zenith watch for over 45 years and now realise I know absolutely nothing about it, other than where I bought it. It has spent the last thirty years in a draw (long story) but having been rescued it runs well but gains a little. The back has never been off as itís never had any issues. Can anyone throw any light on itís history please, as Iím wondering if it is worth having it serviced and probably a new glass.

The number on the back is 959 D 335.

Itís almost certainly a Zenith Stellina with a cal 2562c.

I would definitely get it serviced as all the gaskets will have perished, so itís vulnerable.

    Re: ZENITH WATCH

Welcome to the Zenith forum. It is a typical late sixties Zenith with a Cal. 25x2 C. The x stands for a number and could be a 6 but may well be a 5, perhaps even a 4. The letter in the case serial number (D) does not really match any of the other options (they went from 1 to 7). There is no such thing as a Zenith "Stellina" - it is probably a reference not belonging to any model range, just like most other Zeniths of that period. When italian sellers on eBay offer such Zeniths, they often declare them as "Stellinas" but this just refers to the fact that they have a star on the dial ("Stellina" = "star").

Once serviced and regulated, it should work very well and hardly gain or lose.

    Re: ZENITH WATCH

Case number dates it to 1970 (production year; it may have been available in shops from 1971 onwards).

It's very similar to Zenith Sporto's from that period except that the Sporto would have no date.

It most likely has a Zenith cal 2562 C inside, an excellent movement capable of chronometre precision.

You can hand polish the glass with a product such as polywatch.

Many thanks all for this information, it is gaining quite a bit ( 1 hour plus in 24 ) so it does need some attention. Any idea of the value of this watch as a service could be quite expensive?

Also would a High Street jeweller be able to service this unit or would it need to be a Zenith agent?

Any certified watchmaker can service this movement. Therefore it is advisable to go to a local watchmaker in your neighbourhood.

...but most certainly not a jeweller!! They don't know much about watches, pass it on to a watchmaker (and it's quite possible that they'd pass it on to Zenith!) and will charge you whatever the watchmaker wants plus some for their involvement.
