For sale is a Buran chronograph powered by a Poljot 31681 movement (the famous 3133 chronograph movement with an additional 24 hour complication and a third dial for the 24 hour display). Buran’s modern update the classic 3017-based “Strela” chronograph was produced for a very short period of time around 2005. I purchased this watch new from Munich-based watch merchant Edjus-Uhren and it has been carefully stored ever since. The watch comes with its original presentation box, sales tag, “passport”, user manual, original Buran strap and buckle and a vintage 19mm “tropic” band (which fits the lugs better than the original 20mm Buran strap).
Dial: The dial has a flawless, matte black finish. The sub-seconds, elapsed minute and 24 hours dials are sunk slightly below the main surface of the dial and their centers are guilloched in concentric circles. Numbers, indices and lettering on the dial, including separate tachymeter and telemeter scales, are crisply printed in white and red. The hour markers and the paddle hour and minute hands are lumed. The hour and minute are chromed. The chronograph seconds hand is white with a red “arrow” tip. The gently curved mineral glass crystal has no scratches or scuffs.
Case: The case, bezel, caseback, crown, chrono pushers and surrounds are highly polished. The sides of the case and lugs have a brushed finish. The caseback is a screw-down type with 6 notches for a case wrench and features a large mineral crystal display window, with no scratches or scuffs, and engraving in both Cyrillic and English.
Accuracy and mechanical condition: Based on my very unscientific test of setting the time according to the clock in my computer, leaving the watch alone and then checking it a couple of times a day until it stopped running, this watch runs accurately within 10-20 seconds per day, well within the original specifications, and ran over 60 hours on one winding. The watch winds easily, the time is easy to set, the date wheel functions correctly, the chronograph function starts and stops smoothly with a push of the top button and resets to the 12 o’clock position with a push of the bottom button.
