FS: Nivrel Skeletonized 5 Minute Repeater.......

This watch is a work of art. Every piece of this movement is completely skeletonized, engraved and decorated by hand.

This watch is referred to as "the magnet". Whenever Gerd Hofer of Nivrel puts this watch on display at the Basel Fair, the result is immediate, a crowd of onlookers with questions.

For those new to repeaters, the name refers to a watch that can "chime the time" on command. Dating back to pocket watches that discreetly chimed the time while staying hidden in pockets at night, repeaters eventually made the leap to wrist watches and have been collected ever since.

A repeater will only chime the time when activated by the wearer - that is by either sliding a lever on the side of the case, or pushing a button. The Nivrel Five Minute repeater uses the button system, located just under the 6, to activate the repeater mechanisms and the gongs inside the case.

This is a five minute repeater, meaning that the watch will first chime the number of hours with one gong, and then chime the number of 5 minute increments with two gongs.

For example, if the time is 6:25, and the bottom button is firmly depressed, the watch will chime 6 times in a single tone, and then 5 times in a two tone (gong) sound. The gongs and the entire striking mechanism are completely mechanical.??The repeater module is made for Nivrel by Dubois Depraz, a long time specialist in repeater complications.

Next comes the delicate art of skeletonization - this movement is not simply a skeleton, but an engraved skeleton. The movement is further finished with gold plated parts, and Côtes de Genève, perlage, and blued screws.

Activating the repeater mechanism and watching the individual parts swing into action, including the striking gongs, is mesmerizing.??Transparent crystals on front and back with signed rotor as a limited release. Case is in steel with a hand polished finish. Black calf leather strap.

The engraving is done by World renowned Jochen Benzinger. Jochen is reputed by many to be the top engraver in the world.
This Watch is 4 months old, has been worn very sparingly, and is in excellent condition.

    Price: $5,299.00
