50th sub arrival and dumb question

I am the proud new owner of my first Doxa!!!!

    #43 sharky. I couldn't be happier.

But I have a silly question: while it should be obvious to me that the WR is 300m, I've never seen it written on the case, the ad materials or the website. I assume it's 300, but why wouldn't they advertise that? Doxa wouldn't stoop so low as to not tell us it's really 50, or 100 or something like that, right?

    Thanks!!!

Not a dumb question at all, and probably just an oversight. Most regular DOXA enthusiasts already know that the model number equates to the water resistance, so maybe they overlooked publishing it, knowing subconsciously that we knew it already. At least that's my theory.

Great Sharkhunter BTW, and welcome to the forum!

Didn't I read (when Doxa first announced the 50th SUB 300) that the actual water resistant depth of this watch was way beyond 300 meters? But calling it a name that referred to its actual depth rating would have been confusing. So...it's still confusing.

^ Agree Steve. The 50th Anniversary watch has to be the 'SUB300' but what is the actual depth rating? Not that too many of us plan on diving below 300 meters, but nice to know

Yes, the 300 in the SUB300 stands for 300 meter water resistance

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new Sharkie! You started off right, imo.

Per Dr. Peter Millar's definitive Doxa book regarding the vintage SUB 300/300T The First SUB, "The watch was called the DOXA SUB 300, where the 300 signified that it was tested to withstand the water pressure at 300 meters (1,000 feet)." Early full-page DOXA magazine ads have this line (or similar) in the body copy: "Doxa is tested to withstand pressure at 990 feet and 76 degrees below zero temperatures." Subsequent data sheets on the later models (since the 2002 reissue) note a water resistance depth rating in meters corresponding to the model number. Since few of us dive to 990-1000 feet, I think my recent Doxa SUBS are ready to take for a dive right out of the tube!

Re: 50th sub arrival and dumb question

I usually only dive to a max-depth of 6-9 feet, depending on which neighbor's pool I'm in, so I'm definitely covered.

So that's it? For the record, sub 50th reissue is 300m WR...I take it.
