Doxa Sharkhunter 50th vs Black Lung

I was curious about the dial differences between the Sharkhunter 50th and the BL variants. In images, it looks as though the regular 50th edition had truer whitish lume-surrounds whereas the BL has a clearly grey surround. Can any 50th owners confirm or deny this? While the grey is very nice, I'd prefer a white surround as that is more correct to the original but I want to be certain before releasing the BL and finding a 50th anniversary.

Is it just lighting and an optical illusion or are the colors actually different? The other 50th/BLs seem to have identical dials with the Aqualung logo being the only difference.

Hm. You know what, I think you’re actually right about this. My own Sharkhunter BL and every example I can find online, including Heaton’s prototype/leak from before they were announced, look exactly like the image you’ve posted here. I’ve never once thought of the markers as grey, but now that you point it out the marker printing appears to be slightly less opaque than on the non-BL version.

I do think that the photo you have here of the non-BL watch looks a little solarized, and the increased contrast tends to make it look a bit whiter still than you may find it in person (based on other images online), but at the end of the day I do agree with you that there’s an apparent difference.

I agree. All SBLs I can see in images and my own seem to clearly have a grey surround while the sharkhunter 50ths always seem difficult to determine if they're white or grey. Can any 50th owners verify?

I really like the Sharkhunter BL but every time I look at it I wish the surrounds were off-white or white, like the older models, rather than grey in a more overt patination than the other BL releases.

In my picture I think you can see the difference between the stark white hands and the muted, grey surrounds.

EDIT: Just found this pic, maybe the 50th has grey too?

I think they both use grey, here is a pic of the 50th anniv from the Doxa website. I don't care for the grey and would prefer white. I didn't pickup a Sharklung for several aesthetic reasons, one of them being the grey indice surrounds .

Perhaps they are the same then, it would make more sense if they were the same and the logo was just added. But I certainly would have preferred a white surround but the SBL remains the most readable Doxa BL release so it's the only one I can buy.

But then we also have these pics from the listing, which look white to me.

Anybody know where one can get a Doxa Hershey strap like the one in the photo? Long sold out on the website.

I would also love one of those doxa straps in black?

Be great if they could do another run.

Re: Doxa Sharkhunter 50th vs Black Lung

Can anyone from Doxa confirm or deny in the Sharkhunter 50th and the SBL have different color lume-surrounds on the dial or is it just lighting that is throwing the images off?

Re: Doxa Sharkhunter 50th vs Black Lung

The original SUB 300 50 years Sharkhunters had white lume surrounds. The Black Lungs have grey/blue surrounds. I suspect that the dial printing has changed and I expect the latest Sharkhunters (non-Black Lung) will have these same colour surrounds.

    Cheers!

Could this all be just lighting?
