    Magnetized? seriously?

This comes under the heading: It could only happen to me...

I have a 1500T Sub Professional that my wife bought me for Christmas. It has been very accurate, within the +-5 second rule until this last week. The watch started gaining +30 seconds per day!
I contacted Doxa yesterday, and they inquired if I had dropped/bumped it. No, it has been well cared for. I was perplexed.
I called Andy at lunchtime today. He asked me if I had been around any heavy electronics, or a big speaker recently.

DOH! I had just walked in a parade in my local town, and was near some big speakers!

A friend sent me an online video, on how to check to see if your watch was magnetized.

Take a compass, hold it over the watch. if the needle moves when you lift it from the watch, it's magnetized!

    Mine was!

I just ordered a very inexpensive demagnetizer from Amazon, $8.99 with free shipping!

I will give a full report if this solves the problem!
    Anyone EVER experience this issue?

I once had an situation with a Marathon GSAR almost identical to yours, suddenly 30 spd fast and a compass verified the cause. The cheap demagnetizer took a few tries to get rid of the magnetic field, but solved the problem.

I may be overly paranoid about magnetic fields, but I always take my watch off when I'm on the computer even. If you could, would you also post what time it keeps after you demagnetize it?

    Well, my demagnetizer arrived today.
I followed the procedures set out in the online video I watched to demagnetized the watch.
I placed the watch on the device, depressed the power button for 10 seconds, and removed it and checked it with the compass.
There were no wide swings of the needle.
I performed the procedure once again, then checked it.
There was no movement of the compass needle!
I rehacked the 1500 immediately, and 5 hours later, it is running a second or so slow.
I will check it again tomorrow afternoon to see what my daily loss/gain is now.

Out of curiosity, do you know what accuracy the watch was keeping before being magnetized?

My 1500 Pro was keeping steady at +- 5 seconds per day.
During the summer, when I wore it less, it would occasionally be 7-10 seconds slow.
It is now about +3 seconds after 20 hours!
    Problem solved!

    Re: Magnetized? seriously?

I fell asleep in my hotel room, reading a kindle (rockstar, huh?) still wearing my 1200t.

The watch was plus 3 secs per day. Next day to was plus 15

Quick demagnetise and its back to plus 5

I also had an experience with my oMEGA Planet Ocean and my rolex Sub gaining crazy amounts due to being in a hotel safe with a couple of iPads.

Demagnetiser should be standard watch collector kit.

    Re: Magnetized? seriously?

Would have thought modern watches were more anti-magnetic than this!! Anyway thanks for sharing and glad it worked out in the end!
