So my wife and I are in Burlington Coat Factory in Orlando, Florida ... she is seeking Nirvana in the shoe department and I'm dutifully holding prior acquisitions while watching her in her element. It's an amazing thing. Marlin Perkins meets Cousteau, know what I mean?
I see another gentleman doing doing the same with his wife, except he is on the phone conducting high-finance. After he hangs up, he and I are shuffling about looking completely lost in this world. After a few, he asks "Is that a Doxa?" I'm thrown by the question, as this is the first time I can recall that I've been made in public ...
"Yes!",I reply, with a stupid grin on my face.
He walks over, we offer quick intro's, and I pass my 750T Dirk Pitt Professional for his inspection. He checks it out as I ask how/where he might know the brand from. Turns out the Pete is a member of BDWF and is familiar with Doxa, but has never seen one.
We chat briefly about forums, watches, and horological passions. Our respective wives continue with their quests, knowing that the males of the pride are engaged in their "silly" pursuits, safe from evil.
He offers for my inspection his gorgeous Rolex, Air King I believe, circa 1950's vintage. Stunningly beautiful timepiece. Thanks for allowing me a moment Pete.
After a few minutes of fun, we break and return to our respective spouses. I was smiling like a fool for the rest of the evening. It's the first time I can recall that someone recognized the Doxa. Sure folks have commented on it's orange-goodness, but this is the first time that someone actually recognized the brand. Too kewl!
