    What are you reading?

Cousteau may have worn the watch first but Dirk Pitt is still fighting bad guys in style... 8)

That's an incredible photo of Cussler and his Sub, back when it still had it's original bracelet. That pic should have made it into one of Pete's books.

VERY cool photo of Clive in his prime. Steve, is that photo from a Cussler book jacket?

Seems I recall that it was in Inca Gold when Dirk's orange Doxa was involved with an underground river adventure from Imperial County to Baja California. Clive, iirc, wrote about the glow of the lume on the Doxa as Dirk weaved and floated through the dark, wet subterranean caverns and I thought at the time, "Gee, I wish mine would hold a glow that long."

    God bless Clive.

Respectfully speaking, Cussler looks like a nice chap and he's also a Doxa fan but as writer is terrible! I just wrote Iceberg because he mentions Doxa...it was bad, bad bad!

Endurance by Alfred Lansing, about Ernest Shackleton's voyage to Antarctica. Probably the best adventure story I've ever read -- highly recommended.

Well, Dr. Cussler's books grace my library, along with Hemmingway, Benchley, Forrester, Hammett, Stout and Michener.
I read a Dirk Pitt or Kurt Austin adventure, not to examine great moral or social questions, but to escape in a good yarn!
They are much like Fleming's works, or Clancy's works.
I find them easy to read, enjoy the plot twists, and attempting to figure out how the protagonist will worm their way out of the pickle they are in!
I reject the premise that the work is bad!
We are all entitled to our opinion, and I felt I should pipe in as I do from time to time.
