To all who may be contemplating purchasing watches from auction sites please make sure you ask whether the VAT has been paid. Yours truly didn't.
I purchased a DOXA from a well know auction site from a UK vendor. I am also in the UK. I had cause to send the watch back to the Doxa factory for repair. When the watch was sent back it came with a large customs VAT bill because there was no proof that the watch had previously entered the country.
Doxa were superb in helping and advising me and I can't thank them enough but UK customs and excise are an anomaly, guilty until proven innocent. Even though I purchased the watch second hand, as the current owner I am liable for the VAT unless I can prove otherwise.
I'll pay the bill and put it down to experience but please all learn a lesson from this and ask before you buy.
I may be telling you all to suck eggs and I'm the only one who has fallen into this trap but if not........ASK BEFORE YOU BUY.
