As of 2019, I am surprised Kobold is even in business. They started off with some solid watches, and even Omega uses ETA movements, so at the time Kobold came out, they were really not much different than Omega, Breitling, and a few others.

They are still in business because ďThereís a sucker born every minuteĒ.

Today, I looked at ITunes and Amazon Music and saw that in late 2018 there was a couple of Kathmandu related songs listed...by none other than Michael Kobold! Dude...why donít you make people whole and fix their issues instead of instagramming and writing/performing songs? Smfh....

I believe they do modify some for different models. The Polar Explorer is definitely not stock and has some modifications for its features. For the most part, they are stock ETA like just about everyone else. They did have their run of USA made cases. We'll see how things shape up moving forward.

In a 2007 article in ďInc.Ē Kobold said he had just bought a ten year supply of 1960s-era German mechanical movements which he was going to modify and use as manufacture movements. He said he would produce 2500 watches a year max, so thatís 25,000 new old stock movements. He said they would switch over entirely to these movements and start selling the watches by 2008.

I donít know anything about whatís inside a Kobold watch except what I read in this thread. Does anyone have a Kobold with a 1960s German movement?
Itís a fascinating article written at the brandís peak of success. The magazine writer actually says that Kobold seems like a con man ... but is pretty sure heís not ... and quotes someone else who says itís hard to believe anything Kobold says, but does ... funny how transparent some folks are.
