    SEAL with date window

I wonder if Kobold will make a SEAL with a date window. This is a watch that I would buy at the first opportunity. Hey Obie, any thoughts (or hints)?

    Re: SEAL with date window

Doubtless Warren has a more informed take on this than I do, but it's my understanding that Mike was and remains adamant that the SEAL not have a date window in order to maintain the purity of its design and intent. As such, I think it's highly unlikely that he'll release a SEAL w/date.

    However...

Someone here alluded to the existence of custom (aftermarket?) dials that have a cutout for the existing date wheel (it was probably Warren). Now that I'd like to see... Who knows, maybe if you ask nicely, Mike will sell you one.

    Re: SEAL with date window

While I really like the design of the SEAL, I prefer that my watches have a date window. Who knows... maybe I can ask Mike about this in the near future as I am moving very close to Pittsburgh (from San Francisco Bay Area). I guess I'll just have to drive a mere 150 miles to ask him personally. That is if my wife allows me :-S !

Mike is adamant that the Seal is a true tool dive watch, and that it will not have a date window. I am sure you will never see one direct from Kobold, but if you chose to have a watchmaker open the dial, who knows what you'll find! B-)

    Re: SEAL with date window

My understanding is the movement contains a date wheel. I know when I have to reset my Seal (for crossing time zones and daylight savings time) the first click would appear to be for the date, the second click is then to set the time. So it appears it would be relatively easy to do (Again either through a competent watchmaker or Kobold, (again asking Mike nicely)).

    Re: SEAL with date window

I talked to Ed about getting a Black Bezel for my TI Seal and the Kobold party line is that they endorse no modifications to the original designs. So needless to say I did not get my PVD bezel. I totally understand their position, but thought it was worth a try.

I will eventually have Jack at IWW PVD an extra Ti bezel I acquired, My point is that you are probably going to have better luck with an independant,

    Re: SEAL with date window

I remember seeing a really well done after-market Seal face with date window, but I know it was not through Kobold. And I understand Michael's desire to keep the Seal as a "clean" tool watch. It's aesthetically clean and beautiful the way it is, although I can understand a desire to have it with a date window (although not for me).

    Re: SEAL with date window

I guess I see Mike's point. The SEAL is a beautiful watch, and one that I still might consider buying. It's just wishful thinking that it had a date window.

Or I could always buy a different Kobold... been eyeing the SMG-1 lately (if they're still available.

    Re: SEAL with date window

Well I found out that the dial on the Seal is 1.4mm thick opposed to a normal dial, which is around .4mm. Therefore I don't think any watchmaker will try to add a date window, as the dial thick enough that is would crack if a drill would be used on it...

    Re: SEAL with date window

I like the pure simplicity of the Seal. A date would detract from the design.

    Just my opinion
