    30s/40s Stowa - Help please

    Hi all,

I'm hoping one of you will be able to help me find out about a vintage Stowa that I have recently inherited. I've done a bit of googling but haven't found anything useful.

It was my grandfather's and, as far as my father can remember, he wore this every day until the early seventies. It has understandably seen better days but incredibly, it keeps pretty good time (around -1min a day). Does anyone know anything about the model - if it was a military issued piece etc? all info and/or links are gratefully received.

Also do you think I should try to source a new glass for it or should I love it as it is - paint spatters and all?

Anyway few quick shots of it...

    Many thanks
    Pete

    Hi Pete,

that's a nice one you got there.
I would be very careful in restoring some details. The broken glass should be replaced and the movement has to be serviced.
I wouldn't care about the missing lume in the hands or the brass shining through in the case: The watch was used for many years and that may be seen.

My watch is a similar one:

    Extremely nice watch.
Not sure it was officially issued to the German Wehrmacht, however I can't rule out it has been worn by military personel. You may check what Konrad Knirim wrote about military tiempieces of WW II, just google his name.
    Kind regards

    Hi Volker,

Sorry for the delay, I've only just spotted your reply.

I'm afraid I don't have any update as yet, but it's great to see other examples - thanks for sharing. I have also just had the back off and it's looking pretty healthy considering. I think I will source a new glass and leave it at that for now.

    Thanks again
    Pete

It's been a while, but I have finally got round to replacing the glass on this. I think it looks great and now it's on a nato, it's getting plenty of wear. Hope you like it...

Very nice watch, tenpasten. A special family heirloom, and it looks great. Wear it in health.
