    Question airman original vs automatic

Is the orinal airman really worth the extra $500. The watches look similar. Is the airman automatic a good buy?

I got an Airman auto(w/logo) last month and it's a great buy! Precise, well made, great lume....size/dimensions are perfect one of the most comfy watches I own. For the $'s, imo, an excellent value.

Airman automatic is a fantastic buy, but I believe the AO is worth the extra expense.

I briefly owned both-I placed an order for the auto, but managed to get a FO LE while waiting for the auto to ship. I then sold the auto after comparing it to the FO.

While the FO is slightly bigger per specs, it feels like a larger watch than that. I prefer the dial/handset on the FO. I really like the movement of the FO, especially that of the LE.

The auto is quite a nice watch too, but I much prefer the FO

    Take care,

I second Dr. Roberts comments. The Airman Automatic is a wonderful watch for the money.

But if you want something a little more special and a little larger, then the Original might be for you.

I too agree with Dr Robert! If you can squeeze more $ for the AO serial, go for it but the automatic is very good too!

The Unitas with a central seconds movement is a more expensive movement (looks much better) therefore the asking price of the serial is alot more.

    In short:
Is the orinal airman really worth the extra $500. YES
Is the airman automatic a good buy? YES

Imho you can't compare them directly (not really apple and pears but very close).
They look similar but that it is.
The Stowa FO has a wonderful decorated/finished hw Unitas movement and is wirth any additional cent; the Stowa Airman "only" got equipped with an automatic ETA 2824-2 (which is known to be a real reliable work horse). From a collector's point of view the FO most likely is the more desirable timepiece.

To me there is no doubt that the FO is the more appealing watch. I own one of the rare and first Stowa Airman with an ETA 2801 hw movement, I'd like to invite you to read my review in the Review Forum.

Time permitting, I'll post side by side images and little captions of the Fleiger Original and the Airman later today along with the Marine Original. (the big three, as it were)

Great comparison The thinner case and wider lugs Is great on the 40mm IMO.
