Deployant clasp on an Airman Auto

As a few of you may of seen from my previous post, I just placed an order with Stowa for an Airman Auto, no logo, non-cosc. I'm considering adding the a deployant clasp to my order, but I havent really seen many photos or discussions to know whether it would be a good idea. Does anyone wear the stowa clasp on their Airman? If so, I'd love to see some photos of how it looks and hear about how well it works.

    Thanks

    -Daniel

I don't have any photos handy, but the deployment clasp is great. The engraving is fairly deep and crisp, and the piece feels very solid. It's a little pricey, but as you said, not many people seem to have them and they add a lot to the watch. I say go for it, if you don't like it you can pick up a normal tang for nothing.

An Airman and a deployant to me seems to be a contradiction, historically and in general.

Watchtarheel, thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to hear its a quality piece.

Mike, what do you find to be a contradiction? I understand that deployant clasps were probably not used (if they were even around at all) on the original pilots watches, but I'm not necessarily trying to have the most authentic looking watch possible, I just find the deployant clasp to be interesting. Just curious.

If you just find the deployant clasp to be interesting - go for it. And buy another strap with it. The thick Flieger strap will not fit the small 20mm deployant clasp, it is simply not made for it, maybe just because a Flieger never ever had a deployant.

I have the deployant with my Antea, it also fits the strap of the Marine Auto.

The airman straps do not taper, so I believe you are going to have to order a strap that tapers.

    Dan,

I have the exact same airman auto that you ordered. I wear a deployment clasp on a riveted nappa airman strap and really like the look. I also have the black leather strap that was fitted to my Stowa when I ordered it, however I didn't install the clasp on that strap as I didn't like the look of the clasp with the metal loop of the old style strap...IMO it just didn't look right.

I've had the watch just over a month now and I am very happy with the brown nappa strap, in fact the black strap was only on it a few days before I switched and I don't think I'll go back to it any time soon.

Wishlist: A dual-time dress watch, with date, in the 38-40mm size range and under 12mm in case height...any suggestions?

I take it that this is what you're looking for? :)

It's on an unriveted OEM strap, and as it's not a delicate deployant suits the feel of the watch IMHO.

    Ctarshus, bydandie,

Thanks for the pics, that is what I was hoping to see. I think the deployant looks pretty good. Do either of you happen to have any pics where the clasp is open, or maybe a shot from the other side where you can see the clasp on the inside of the strap? If you dont have one handy, dont worry about it, but just curious.

I'm still thinking about what to do for a strap. I think I'm going to go for the black strap without rivets (thats what I ordered anyway), but I've also been looking at some of the Di-Modell straps as well. We'll see, I've got some time to wait anyway!

    Thanks.

    No problem Dan,

I've tried the Di-Modell Jumbo straps on my Damasko DA37 and it looks good. Don't have pictures, but search for user "Andy TIms" on the German watches forum and you'll see some pictures. You might also want to try Toshi for a nice custom strap! 8)
