    Flieger-love. Lume- not so much.

I just received my Flieger Klassik 6498 90th and it’s incredible. However, the one complaint I have is the weakness of the Lume. The duration and strength is just extremely poor. I was under the impression it was to be a very strong type lum? Thoughts?

As I said in the other post, I agree with you. What I can add is that I am probably used to diver watches, where the lume is much powerful and the minute hand is somehow different from the hour hand, so that you cannot mistake one for the other. Stowa Limited is my first Flieger, so I believe this is maximum we can have from any Flieger in terms of readability and night glow.

The „old radium“ lume is comparable to standard C1. No Grade A or Grade X1. Grade X1 shows a performance increase of up to 60% after two hours compared to the standard grade.
Typically, red and black colored pigments show the lowest brightness. Not only the color itself but the intensity as well have an influence on the afterglowing performance. Low colored pigments show therfore a better performance.

The Klassik and Sports flieger have C3 and if the 'Old Radium' is comparable to C1.........that explains (After 30 minutes activation, C1 has 31% of the brighness of C3)
" Two mighty torches of flame like the wings of a yellow bird of fire flew over a field, covered a field with a brilliant yellow bloomings of flame, and in the midst of it, white as a ghost, white as the white of Melville's Moby Dick, white as the shrine of the Madonna in half the churches of the world, this slim angelic mysterious ship of stages rose without sound out of its incarnantion of flame and began to ascend slowly into the sky, slow as Melville's Leviathan might swim, slowly as we might swim upward in a dream looking for the air............."

It was a trade-off worth making in this case I think. Love the vintage look of these.

Really is a stunning piece. Deciding myself limited or KS model, with I could see both in person to decide.

I think giving up the lume for the Limited is well worth the trade off. I just received mine after purchasing from a member on here......and it truly is stunning. It's all in what you value more.

I didn't realize that the vintage lume was so mismatched between the dial and the hands.
