    Flieger original or Flieger 6498

    First of all, hello everyone,
I didn't find a topic on the subjet, don't hate me, if it exists...

    Here's my dilemma,

I fell in love with Stowa flieger since a couple of years.

My fiance kindly proposes me to buy me a wedding gift,

I Would like a Flieger With a Unitas and handwinding (because i cannot wear a watch during my job, so an automatic will not be ideal)

But the 6498 troubles me, there is no second-hand and i don't like the fact having a watch and not seeing live. And the mini second ruines the beauty of the Flieger.

Is there, by any luck, a chance to see brand new flieger original sell on the stowa shop with 6497 unitas and a big second hand ?

    Like this one,

    Best regards,

    Régis

The answer to your question is NO. And if the answer would be "yes" the waiting list would be long. Very long. Marrying in 2020 then would be an opition
    Kind regards

What happened to the option to make an automatic into a hand wind? Stowa still shows the photos of the mod but no option to order it.

Flieger Original, 41mm, always is/was handwind (Unitas) and for the Flieger 6498 nomen est omen, hw as well though. You are talking about the 40mm Flieger which is/was available with (ETA) 2824-2, 2801 or SW 215. A different pair of shoes.

Yeah, I know...I just thought if he was really interested in a hand wound flieger with a second hand he might consider the 40mm with the modified movement...or the Flieger Klassik Sport for that matter. Seemed like the hand winding part was more important to him than it being a Unitas but I could be wrong on that.

On a side note, I never noticed the standard hand wind with the unitas 6498 didn't have a second at all...it makes sense...just never noticed.

    Thanks for the answers.

There is a wait list, for the 40 mm With a handwind movement,

I never had a watch without second hand... The 6498 is gorgeous !

Any returns ? Is it perturbing not having the second hand ?

The Unitas is really prettry, i don't know what to do, i ask for an original one, i'll see if the wait is not too long...

Re: Flieger original or Flieger 6498

I agree the Unitas is very pretty...and it fills out the case better for viewing. The one with the central seconds hand is the holy grail for Stowa fliegers but as Mike said is not available...and probably won't be again.

Not having a second hand is fine but a little odd on a flieger. As an aside, I sometimes find the second hand on my flieger distracting when i'm just glancing down to tell the time. Even though it's thinner than the minute and hour hands, it is longer and I often mistake it for the minute hand and have to do a double-take...but that's just me.

    It helps, thanks !

I Will wait for the answers of the emails, it is my first Real watch, the choice is tough !
The compromise Will be 40 mm 215-1 handwinding, damn Unitas :pensive:

Re: Flieger original or Flieger 6498

I recommend the 6498. After wearing the 40mm, the Chrono, Klassik Sport, and the 6498, the 40mm takes more of a back seat in my preference.
As with the Chrono (Stowa Flieger Chrono), my 6498 doesn't have a small second hand. Originally, I thought that would bother me, but, to the contrary, it makes for better readability.
Yes, the 6497 LE is sweet but when, if ever, will Stowa or a private owner make one available?
If you get Stowa's 6498 Flieger with no small second hand, the rotors have a swirl pattern to them (not plain, like their 6498 Flieger with small second hand).
Another plus for the 6498 is its thickness. 12mm works better for me than thinner 40mm flieger's 10.2mm height. Hope this helps.
