Help me decide - Ikarus 40 - black or blue hands

Hi all. I am looking at the Ikarus 40 (and peeking at the Flieger Verus 40... but leaning Ikarus). I currently own a Stowa Marine Original brushed. I once owned a Stowa Marine Auto with the silver dial. It felt a little too dainty for me and I never meshed 100% with the silver/champagne dial. I also currently own an Alpina 44mm Startimer Sunstar Pilot. I am selling my Alpina even though I really like it because I am wanting to reduce the size of my pilot watch.

A little background pertaining to my decision. I love the sunray of the Alpina, but at times I tire of the silver look and long for more of a grey. Does the Ikarus tick the box for a grey dial watch or in the flesh, is it silvery? In comparing both the Ikarus and Verus, I like the look of the Ikarus dial more, but not sure about legibility as in some pics, the Ikarus seems a touch difficult to read with lack of contrast between the arabic numerals and the dial color. And to confuse things a bit more, if I were to go the route of the Ikarus, again I am torn between the black hands and blued hands.

I already know that the Ikarus is the one I want. I just am worried I may have remorse due to the legibility or too silver a dial. Otherwise, I would be certain. But that begs the question, black or blue in person? Both look good in pics, but what are the general thoughts on one vs the other?

Here are pics of the aforementioned watches (Stowa pics from Stowa website):

I don't have an Ikarus, but have pondered black or blue hands myself, if I were to get one. I would prefer the blue hands without a date window. If I had to get a date window, I would go with the black hands.

I have a STOWA Flieger Klassik Sport with blued hands — Black dial. Depending on lighting and angle, the blued hands can disappear against the dial — only revealing the lume portion of the hands, or they can become the vibrant blue that you demonstrated in the photo. I love the effect. If, however, you want something more subdued, go with the other option.

First one. That touch of red does it.

The rhodium dial of the Ikarus shimmers in the sunlight which makes it more silvery than anything else. I don't think it would tick off that grey dial box. The Alpina would actually do that better

Regarding the hands, I think it's most peoples way of thinking that if blued hands are offered for a watch, you must get them. However, I'd rather not be so careless about considering the characteristics of a dial overall, which in the case of the Ikarus, think the blued hands look very out of place with all of the black aspects of the dial. Black lined hands definitely gives more of a cohesive look here.

A couple weeks ago I was admiring the Ikarus. I like the black hands for legibility. However, I really like the slight pop of color from blue hands. I compromised and went with a black dial diver

I have the Ikarus handwind with the black outline hands. I also have 52yo eyes and I don’t have any issues reading the time. IMO the blued hands would be a better contrast if you’re concerned about legibility. There wasn’t an example of one on the secondary market when I was looking so I opted for the regular hands. The Ikarus is truly a great and fun watch. Good luck! Here’s mine.

Due to the black date wheel I would not bring another colour into play. Black hands though.

Back hands for me as well, a fourth colour on the dial would be too much.
