If Tag/Omega Made a Stowa Marine, How Much Would it Cost?

I've been curious about this, let's imagine if Stowa Marine was made by either Tag or Omega, how much do you think the price would be ?
(after taking into consideration the factor of what you can get with the money you spend to buy their current watch lineup)

Of course they would never produce Stowa Marine kind of look watch, so let's say they changed the look a bit - but movement, quality of parts, and workmanship were still identical, what would be your guess?

X 2 I expect, Stowa's not paying for Tiger Woods, Lewis Hamilton & Leonardo di Caprio to ponce thier products....

How much would Tags and Omegas cost if they were sold strictly online with no AD mark-up like Stowa?
That's by far the greatest factor involved.

Yeah there's a huge marketing department to pay for... I'd say even 3x the price.

By then I could finally afford a DeVille watch! haha...
But now, I mean knowing the huge mark-up (inevitable or not) I sometime hesitate to choose Omega and the likes for my next brand of watch knowing that with the same amount of money, I could get a better quality watch from small private owned watch company.

The only thing I like about buying mainstream brands is when you need to fix your watch, you can do it anywhere - less hassle compared to shipping it to wherever your watch comes from.

With hand-wound chronometer movement I suggest the retail price should be over 3000 USD,

I bet the price would be much beter if stowa or any other "smaller" company built an omega or tag watch. That marketing takes a toll....I just bought a watch from Epos-small company. Got a nice looking, heavy chrono with a fully decorated vj 7750 with exhibition back for just over 1k....paid about the same for this watch as I did for my omega seamaster non chrono in 2004. I love my omega but it's smaller, no complications other than date, I can't see the movement either. You can get more for your money with smaller companies than with the big guys plus you won't see your watch on a whole bunch of other wrists either....

Re: If Tag/Omega Made a Stowa Marine, How Much Would it Cost?

You can figure 60% of the retail cost of a heavily marketed/advertised watch (Tag, Omega, Breitling, etc.) can be attributed to marketing expense and retail markup - that's about 40% for the retailer and about 20% in marketing. Of course some retailers discount heavily and others don't.

So based on that formula, a $1,200 Stowa would retail for somewhere in the $2,400 to $3,000 range in a store with average markups and discounts.

There's no question in my mind that Stowa is an excellent value and their marketing model works well for them and for the consumer. If you want to see how this marketing model can be taken up a notch (only on-line direct), just check out Christopher Ward watches. Talk about value!

I'd say it would cost more and they would make it out of cheaper materials... well tag would

In 2007 Tag and Omega spent a combined 34 million dollars in advertising.

Other than their website, I wonder how much Stowa spent on advertising, anything?

Thank goodness for brands like Stowa.
