    Kriegsmarine info??

    Hi Guys,

I am still waiting for my Airman Original to arrive, so in the meantime I have been trawling through ebay looking for something interesting. Anyway this came up:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&i tem=140298004313

Do you guys think its a fake, or could it be the real deal? It hasnt got KM on the dial or the eagle on the back? If there are any experts out there i would be greatful for any input.

    Thanks

    FreeAgent

Fake. Stowa made no watches for U-Boots. Those watches from the Ukraine are at least marriages and are worthless to any collector.

Ok, thanks Mike. I thought it looked to good to be true, as is mostly the case with ebay (although i did get my 2 month old MO from ebay.de so there is some hope).

FreeAgents' reference pictures show a real Stowa pocketwatch, made into a wristwatch by soldering on wire lugs, so it is a marriage watch probably made recently. That kind of pocketwatch was never used by the German military, all watches used were clearly catalogued and documented. I suggest Konrad Knirim's excellent book 'Military Timepieces' for members who are interested in German miltary watches.

I would guess the KM on the back was added later in an attempt to get more money out of it.

As far as I know the only Stowa Kriegsmarine watches were the ones that the MO design/style is based on.

Ok, so not as valuable as a military watch, but its a crime that these butchers ruin a nice vintage watch like this
